With face masks and coverings compulsory both in England and Scotland, soon in Northern Ireland though not yet here in Wales, I thought I would do a round up of some of the different styles and patterns that are available and talk about how to accessorise with them. There's plenty out there about the importance of wearing them as we are out and about, but how to inject a bit of your own personality and personal style? As we are in for the long run wearing them, we might as well have fun with this very prominent new addition to our wardrobes. I've been wearing mine - ones my mam made me - every time I hit the shops but with advice to wash them after every use I feel I need more of a selection that I can rotate and choose from.

I've been experimenting with what accessories are the least fuss to wear when you are using them. Studs, huggies and endless hoops are some of the easiest jewellery to wear with masks as they won't get caught in the straps and they will stay in place without needing to be fiddled with. You gotta keep your hands away from the masks. But you can still get away with pendant earrings if you keep the earring backs the jewellery comes with, they can be secured tightly against your ears and are light enough to wear all day without you constantly readjusting them.

So here are some of my favourites, many from small indie brands, and what to wear with them...

Add some high stakes glamour to your face covering look with these frilled silk versions from cult brand Vampire's Wife. The pre-orders on their different styles have been selling out quick.

Match the deep navy blue with stunning lapis gemstone earrings or some statement gold-filled hoops with removable pendants.

Gold Bee Stud and Lapis Lazuli Gemstone Earrings £36
Gold-Filled Hoop Earrings with Filigree Drop Pendant £34

Keeping on the floral theme one of my stockists The Golden Sheaf Gallery, Narberth, are selling some beautiful masks, either direct in store or message them to be posted to you. Keep your hair out of your face with some bumblebee hair grips and add a pretty daisy stud to complete the blooming garden feel.

Fashion designer Dionne Gooding breathes new life into off-cuts and scraps of beautiful Ankara fabrics, to create designs which are "African culture meets London style". Add some stunning shimmering studs to compliment the gorgeous patterns.

Show your musical love with these embroidered Bowie or Dolly Parton masks from Patch Ya Later. They're a brand from the States so they might not be the quickest to get to you, but they look good. Pair them with some statement hoops for extra rock chic.

Patch Ya Later Masks $24
Chunky Gold Rope Effect Hoop Earrings £30
Gold Filled Hoop Earrings with Dragon's Claw Pendant (Removable) £34

Leopard is a neutral, but will you choose the natural version from Hush or the deep green ones from Aftermask? The team behind Aftermask were due to launch their first clothing line but Covid has put pause on that - they have a great collection of patterns for their masks and are currently offering 3 for £20

Aftermask £8 or 3 for £20
Crescent Hoop Earrings with Black Aurora Borealis Beads £30
Hush Leopard Print Face Mask £10
Gold Filled Hoops with Heart Pendant (Removable) £34

For when those ultra glam events and parties start happening again it is good to be prepared with a face mask to match. This lace one from Canadian evening wear/bridal brand Narces is a hint of 50 Shades and Eyes Wide Shut, and is a pretty sexy number. Add some pearls and a modern floral crown and you can be ready for any ball, or just totally overdressed for a socially distant pub garden. I'm not judging.

Narces Lace Face Mask $30
Gold Filigree Fan Earrings £24
Gold Leather Floral Halo Crown £160
Gold Seashell and Pearl Stud Earrings £36

NB Please read official guidance on how to buy, care for and safely wear your face masks. Check that each mask you buy adheres to the required standards and works for you. This is a styling piece.
