How to Keep your Jewellery Looking Great

We hate it when our favourite jewellery tarnishes or stops looking good. So here at Claire Hill Designs we have worked really hard to create collections that are made from the best materials including recycled silver and a thick 2.5 micron gold vermeil plate.

These premium materials not only look better, they are create to last longer.

But just like we all need self care to keep being our best selves, so does our jewellery. So here's the jewellery equivalent of "move more, drink water, get your 5 a day and sleep".

General Care

As much as you can remove jewellery when washing your hands, showering or swimming because water and chemicals (especially chlorine) can affect the longevity of the gold plating or encourage silver to tarnish.

Always apply make-up, hair spray, scent and moisturiser before putting your jewellery on as the chemicals in these can affect the beauty and shine of your jewellery. Do not use a polishing agent or abrasive compounds as using these will wear away the layers of gold.

Storage

Those pretty jewellery displays look good, but keeping your jewellery in direct sunlight 24/7 isn't the best for it. Gemstones can fade and jewellery can lose its lustre. There's no jewellery SPF, but storing everything in a cool, dry, place is the best option.

We love Muji's stacking jewellery trays.

Avoid scratches to gemstones or pendants by keeping the jewellery indivudually stored (not left ontop of each as Claire has done in the past) and to avoid the dreaded chain knots, keep them fastened and lay them flat. They'll love it when you give them some space - just like when you get to sleep starfish style in a freshly made bed.
