Who to gift opals?
The official birthstone of October and also the zodiac sign of Libra (ruled by Venus, the planet of love).
Because of the connection to Libras - the most romantic sign of the zodiac - the gemstone is often related to feelings of deep passion, love & desire.

Opals have been given poetic names such as "Pandora," "Light of the World," and "Queen of Gems".
Opals and Goddesses
Opal honors Cardea, the Roman Goddess of Doorways and Entry. She protects the family and children of the house, as well as keeping evil spirits from crossing the threshold.
Opal honors Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld, ruling during the cold, hard winter. Persephone is also the Greek Goddess of Spring, representing celebration and the Earth alive with new growth.
Opal also honors Chirakan-Ixmucane, the Mayan Creator Goddess; Cyhiraeth, the Welsh Goddess of Streams and Brooks; Dana (Danu), the Celtic River Goddess; and Ixchel, the Mayan Goddess of Childbirth.
History of opals
A stone of magic and spellbinding properties. Zeus, King of Gods, was so happy when he defeated the Titans that he wept tears of opals. In the Middle Ages, the opal’s ever-shifting colors gave rise to a belief that they could turn the wearer invisible.
Arabic legend says it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease.
Indian mythology also associates the gemstone with a revered and worshipped deity. They believed that when the ‘Goddess of Rainbows’ turned herself to stone to evade other gods’ advances, the opals represented fragments of her body

Opals and their USES
Known as a stone of positive transformation, it is believed that wearing it may help you find the strength to confront any negative emotions that may be lingering.
Believed to be an ‘amplification’ stone that can bring thoughts and feelings to the surface and then intensify them
HOW STRONG ARE OPALS?
Opal is a more delicate gemstone with a hardness of 5.0-6.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale.
So this means you will rarely see it faceted as a gemstone and it will more likely be in smooth, domed cabochon shapes.
If you are looking for a harder version of the gemstone choose our lab-grown opals.
